Eligibility
- Academic Qualification: Must hold a Bachelor's Degree of a minimum of 3 years duration in any discipline from a recognized university.
- Final Year Students: Candidates appearing for the final year of their Bachelorβs degree are also eligible to apply.
πAge Limit
There is **no age limit** for candidates to appear for the XAT exam.
πDetailed Syllabus
- Verbal and Logical Ability: Reading Comprehension, Critical Reasoning, Grammar, Vocabulary, Para Jumbles.
- Decision Making: This is a unique and critical section. It involves questions based on case studies, situational puzzles, and ethical dilemmas that test managerial and decision-making skills.
- Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation: Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, Modern Math, and Data Interpretation sets (tables, graphs, charts).
- General Knowledge: Static GK (History, Geography, Science, Books & Authors) and Current Affairs (National & International, Business, Economy).
- Analytical Essay Writing: A short essay on a given topic to test writing skills and coherence of thought.

- Step 1: The XAT Exam. Candidates appear for the single-session computer-based test.
- Step 2: Scorecard and Shortlisting. Candidates are shortlisted by XLRI and other participating B-schools based on their XAT sectional and overall scores.
- Step 3: GD/PI Round. Shortlisted candidates are called for the second stage, which typically includes a Group Discussion (GD) and multiple rounds of Personal Interviews (PI).
The final merit list is prepared based on a composite score including XAT score, GD/PI performance, and academic profile.

XAT is one of the oldest and most prestigious MBA entrance exams in India, conducted by XLRI Jamshedpur. Candidates must register and apply online through the official XAT website. During the XAT application, they can also select and pay for the programs at XLRI. For other participating institutes, candidates need to apply separately using their XAT ID.

Scoring Pattern: +1 mark for every correct answer, -0.25 marks for every incorrect answer. There is also a small negative marking of -0.10 marks for more than 8 unattempted questions.

The total duration of the exam is 210 minutes (3 hours and 30 minutes).

The results are declared very quickly, typically in the last week of January, within 3 weeks of the exam.

The application fee for the XAT exam is typically around βΉ2,100. There is an additional fee of ~βΉ200 for each XLRI program a candidate wishes to apply to.
